The Dutch student Dirk van Leersum and two co-intiatiefnemers have the physical keyboard for the Jolla smartphone on Kickstarter. The project started as a hobby with a 3d-printed case and an old keyboard of a Motorola, but is now almost ready for release.

Users can choose for a keypad layout including qwerty, azerty and bare keys, can choose from a range of colours and a wooden back, it appears on the Kickstarter-page of the TOHKBD. The extendable keyboard is a so-called The Other Half, a new ‘back’ for the Jolla.

It is the second version of the keyboard. First, did the student make a 3d-printed case with a keyboard from an old Motorola Milestone as a physical keyboard for the Jolla. Thus he stood at the end of February at the stand of Jolla on telecombeurs Mobile World Congress. Now use the initiators a separately keyboard instead of that of the Milestone.

Van Leersum asks 100 euro for the retractable keyboard, which is using I2C connects to the Jolla, and so can pass on that the software is the virtual keyboard can leave the phone in landscape mode. The phone with slide-out keyboard is 16mm thick.

With the Kickstarter action Of Leersum 55,000 euro get. At the time of writing, support more than 200 people, the action, and he has more than half within with still 29 days to go. He expected the keyboards to deliver next spring.
