Games get so far in 2014 is significantly less support on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter than in the same period in 2013. Dutch projects fail considerably more often than they reach their goal.

Consultancy firm ICO Partners has the donations to the game projects analysed. The finding of the bureau is that in the first half of 2014 significantly less to game projects is donated than in the first half of 2013. In that entire year, would game projects for about 58 million dollars, converted approximately, 46 million euro, have picked up. If the current trend continues, that amount in 2014 is far from achieved. In the first half of 2014, there is only 13.5 million dollars, 10.7 million euros, to game projects spent.

The number of projects that target amount has been achieved, is decreased. Where in 2013 446 game projects the intended amount binnensleepten, there were in the first half of 2014 but 175. ICO Partners has no convincing explanation for the decrease in popularity, but has his suspicions. So, the company expects that some of the big titles from 2013 have had a positive impact on the rest of the projects. The hype around the platform would also be watered down and people would be more sceptical by the failed projects. Kickstarter also has more competition.

Kickstarter is now about half active in the Netherlands and also here beaches to be more projects than there are to succeed. Crowd Expedition writes that a whopping 75 percent of the Dutch projects fail. “When we look at the current campaigns from the selection filter, and the cancelled campaigns, if not always successful, campaigns to interpret, than is the probability of success of a Dutch campaign on Kickstarter is reduced to 25 percent.” It is expected that the success rate will continue to decline.
