Developers to build Tox protocol for ‘safer’ Skype-alternative

A number of developers working on Tox, a protocol using encryption more secure internet applications. One of the applications running on top of Tox is being developed is a communication tool similar to Skype.

The developers started work on the development of Tox shortly after the first Snowden-revelations. The developers use a variety of publicly available code for the development of the Tox protocol, including components of bittorrent and the NaCL-encryptiebibliotheek. On the basis of the Tox protocol, there are also applications developed, such as messagingclients and voip applications. According to Wired is the most emphasis, however, on the development of an application under the name of the µTox is released and that on Skype it seems.

The µTox application works on the basis of a proven encryption method with a public key and a private key. With the help of the public key can be contacts in the “Skype-clone” will be added. Then voip calls and chat conversations to be conducted that are completely encrypted.

The developers want to say with the Tox protocol as a basis more secure communication software development. A part of the Tox development team, however, comes of the infamous 4Chan forum, leading to the skepticism in beveiligingskringen leads. The developers claim that their protocol want to submit to an audit as soon as sufficient adult is found. Also, the group operates now via GitHub and other groups working to software on the basis of the Tox protocol to build.
