Google wants in the file manager of Chrome OS to add support for cloudopslagdiensten of third parties, such as Dropbox and Amazon S3. Also, the operating system should be able to deal with webdav, samba shares and sftp.

Currently would Google the new functionality, the test and the necessary apis are almost ready to have this in developmentversies of Chrome OS, reports the website OmgChrome. All cloudopslagdiensten and network protocols are organized into a file system provider api. In the first instance, would Google focus on the cloudopslagdiensten Dropbox and Amazon S3 buckets, while also use the webdav protocol to get the attention. In the future, also have the sftp and samba protocols are supported, as well as the service Box.

Google would be in the testing phase, all the api’s for the safety still on read-only set. Eventually all perform basic operations on files such as deleting files, creating folders and renaming files, in the file manager of Chrome OS. When the functionality is broadly rolled out to Chromebooks is still not clear.

Chrome OS must also be integration with Chromecast, the hdmi dongle from Google. So now have media files on Google Drive using Chrome OS on a Chromecast can be opened, so that, for example, video clips on a tv to become visible. The Chromecast functionality is temporarily only available in the development builds of Chrome OS, says Google developer François Beaufort.
