Broadcom has a wi-fi chip for mobile devices announced that, in theory, speeds of up to 650Mbit/s can be achieved. The BCM4358 works with the 802.11 ac technology and is, according to the manufacturer the fastest chip available for mobiles.

The advent of the fast wi-fi chip for mobile phones by Broadcom on its website revealed. According to the manufacturer, the chip is specifically intended for use in high-end smartphones and tablets, though there is still nothing known about the manufacturers that interest you. The chip has the name BCM4358 received and is based on the 802.11 ac wi-fi protocol. This enables Broadcom in theory speeds up to 650Mbit/s, according to the manufacturer two times faster than the current fastest wi-fi chips for smartphones and tablets.

Mobile devices that include the BCM4358 should also perform better as wi-fi and bluetooth at the same time turned on. By interference, the two wireless technologies each other’s performance negatively. This interference is at the BCM4358 is reduced by 50%, though it is not clear where the manufacturer himself compares. The wi-fi chip also needs accurate positioning possible, with a deviation that is about one metre.

According to Broadcom, the new wi-fi chip already in production, and the first mobile devices with the BCM4358 this quarter. What products exactly are is not yet known.
