Russia is obliged to fill in passport details in public wifi hotspots

The Russian government is obliged, henceforth, users of public wi-fi hotspots to provide their passport details to fill in before they online can. With the measure, the government wants anonymous use of hotspots change.

The provider of the hotspot will be responsible for the collection of passport data, it is apparent from the text of the new law that prime minister Medvedev has signed. In addition to the user he must also be the mac address capture and the communication for at least six months to capture, so it seems in the text. What the motives are, it is not clear from the legal text, but in any case, it seems that no one is more anonymous login.

Russian media differences of opinion about what the new law exactly means. The news agency ITAR/TASS, the property of the state, reports that the whole ban on anonymous internet browsing using wi-fi hotspots, while the website Slon.ru on the basis of an officer of the city government of Moscow says that it only applies to government networks that the public can use.
