The iOS version of VLC will support Chromecast. Developers say there is currently busy doing. Also there are desktop versions for Windows, Mac and Linux in the pipeline.

Developer Felix Paul Kühne says after forumvragen that developers are busy with Chromecast support for VLC’s iOS version, and discovered GigaOm. It is not clear yet when support for the hdmi dongle from Google will be released.

Kühne to indicate on the VLC forum that the developer is working on a desktopvariant for Windows, Mac and Linux. There is, according to him, more time to sit down, because those programs ‘slightly harder’ to make. So Google has no sdk released. This means that the VLC team needs to work with reverse engineering or VLC should work with the Chrome browser.

The VLC media player is very popular, because the open-source software for a wide range of platforms available and many codecs out-of-the-box supports. By Chromecast-support to add, users can via VLC content from a smartphone or desktop casting to a tv.
