The X.org Foundation, the organization behind the most widely used displayserver in linux distributions, presents a cash prize of several thousand euros available to the Dutchman Roy Spliet for the improvement of Nouveau.

Spliet has been working a long time at the Nouveau-project, the name of some opensourcedrivers for common Nvidia-gpu’s. He had served in X.org a project proposal to Nouveau to improve. He wants, among other things by means of reverse engineering, the power consumption and the clock speed of different Nvidia gpus improve. The support for this is now according to Spliet still far from optimal, the performance of the gpu’s limit.

X.org the proposal for the project, REclock called, approved. Reports that Phoronix Friday. In the context of X.Org Endless Vacation of Code, a counterpart of Google’s well-known Summer of Code program, may Spliet from Monday for three to four months work on the project. He gets of the X.org Foundation the necessary hardware and a cash prize of up to six thousand dollars, converted over four thousand euros. The Dutchman may receive more money once the project progresses.

Spliet hopes that in a few months time, a lot of work to do. “For this project, my aim is to have all the loose ends for the NVA3/5/8-gpus from Nvidia to tie”, he writes. By means of reverse engineering, he wants to be the voltage and the implementation of frequency scaling for gpus improve in Nouveau.
