China wants its domestic semiconductor industry in 2030, the world’s largest. This is clear from a strategy document of the Chinese Ministry of ICT. Not only hopes the country more revenue, it will prefer not to depend on foreign hardware.
Although China is globally the largest manufacturer of electronics, the chipsector behind; in 2013, the country had 231 billion, or 170 billion euros, to chips to import. The country expected that the more profit you can make on the production of electronics if the chips are not by foreign, but by Chinese companies to be produced.
Another aspect too: if China is the chips itself, that the ‘domestic security to increase,” writes the ministry. China has already indicated low confidence in American hardware, because of revelations of NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden indicate that the Us intelligence backdoors to let build in hardware.
China expected that his own chips all over the world will be bought, but whether that will succeed is the question: especially in the United States, Chinese equipment is distrusted. So is Huawei, which in addition to phones are also network devices, accused of cooperating in espionage by the Chinese government. The company, whose network hardware in the Netherlands is often used by telecom providers, has always denied.
