BlackBerry has a secure version of the chat app BBM released for companies. BBM Protected should protect data with each message its own encryption. Chat done from the regular app.

BBM Protected is only available for BlackBerry users with BES, BlackBerry Enterprise Server. The Canadian company wants to own the data cannot decrypt it, and asking users who want to chat via Protected to a key exchange along a road that BlackBerry can not see, such as by sms or regular phone.

With that key, users can then establish a secure connection to set up. BBM Protected uses the regular security of the chat app, which works over tls, and adds an extra layer of security on the basis of several standards for encryption and key exchange. The encryption is done per message to eavesdropping more difficult.

The paid service is currently only available for users of BlackBerry OS 6 and higher. Support for the apps on Android and iOS will follow later this year.

The step for extra security BBM is the first in an attempt to get business users to get BBM to use or continue to use. Director John Chen made immediately after his inauguration last autumn, the clear that BlackBerry is a strong focus on the business market.
