The Agency Telecom will put in its annual report on 2013 questioning the coverage and capacity of mobile and fixed networks. In total there were in 2013, six failures in which more than a million customers inconvenienced at any time.

The ceo of the Agency Telecom, director-chief inspector Peter Spijkerman, notes in the annual report, State of the Aether at that malfunctions are never excluded. “Are we enough aware of? The question is whether the mobile and the fixed network will always have enough capacity and coverage to offer. And also in the extent to which that is necessary.”

The Agency proposes that the requirements that the society places on networks may be too high and therefore wants a ‘debate’ about what the society expects of networks. “That social requirement is not consistent with the reality. After all, market participants are not required
to anywhere in the Netherlands full coverage to offer. Apart from the fact that technically one hundred percent coverage of mobile network is also not feasible. Therefore, it is possible that at certain places no mobile telecommunications is available. Not every citizen is aware of this fact. How are we going with this?”

The figures show that in 2013 six failures were more than a million people were affected. There were a total of 36 faults of which the Dutch have had. Providers must report disruptions since a change in the law a few years ago.
