Nintendo will come with Skylanders-like figurines, and brings smartphone-app

Nintendo is busy with the development of physical figures that both the Wii U if the 3DS can communicate. The figurines connect to the consoles by means of near field communication. Also comes Nintendo with a Mario Kart 8 smartphone app.

Nintendo are the dolls currently known under the working title NFP: Nintendo Figurine Platform. Nintendo sees NFP not as a accessory or software product, but as a self-contained platform which can be used for various games. 3DS users should have a statue first time on a special NFP-reader convert to create the connection. The NFP-reader will then connect with the 3DS through infrared. The Wii U gamepad has a nfc function built-in without the special reader connected with a statue. After the connection is established, is the character playable on the console.

There would be, according to Nintendo already has a number of games are compatible with the new platform, and there will be more soon to follow, the consolebouwer. To which games, exactly, is not clear. The first NFP-products would be somewhere in the first half of next year to come out. Nintendo wants more details about NFP and the reader will announce during the E3 of this year. The concept of NFP is similar to Skylanders-games from publisher Activision. That concept was already copied by Disney, that in 2013 the similar Disney Infinity put on the market.

Further let Nintendo know that Mario Kart 8 is expanded with Mario Kart TV. This allows players, among other videos of highlights from races to share with friends by uploading them to a special server. The Mario Kart TV feature will, according to Nintendo available via a dedicated website and an app in which users in addition to videos of friends, also watch official Nintendo videos, and various score lists. Users in the app, log in with their Nintendo Network id to their personal statistics.

The announcement of NFP and the Mario Kart 8 app, comes a day after the announcement of Nintendo’s annual results of 2013. The Japanese company is struggling, partly due to the poor sales of the Wii U, again with loss. In total, there were 6.2 million Wii U consoles sold, while the company a year ago, had hoped to 9 million Wii U’s to sell.
