Nvidia has new video cards generation for laptops officially announced. The 800M series consists of models with existing Kepler gpus, but also from models with new Maxwell chips. All gpu’s get support for the energy-saving Battery Boost technology.

The only gpu that is exclusive with a Maxwell-gpu is delivered, the GeForce GTX 850M: which has 640 cuda cores and is therefore composed of five smx units: the Maxwell-architecture provides for 128 cores per smx unit. Also the GTX 750 Ti for the desktop, which is based on the Maxwell architecture, has 640 cudacores. The GeForce GTX 860M is a Maxwell-configuration with 640 cudacores released, but there will also be variants with 1152 cores on the Kepler architecture based. It is not clear how consumers the two 860M variants would need to be able to distinguish at the laptop specifications.

The gpus are anyway better specifications than comparable models from the 700M-line for the higher segment, that Nvidia a year ago released. Nvidia claims that the new gpus are 15 to 60 percent better performance, where the most powerful model, the GTX 880M is the least profitable with its higher clock speed and the GTX 850M the most with its new architecture. Among other things Asus, MSI, Dell Alienware and Lenovo are coming out with new laptops with the gpus.

All new models come with Nvidia Battery Boost. This is energy-saving technology that a frame rate of 30fps pursues and the cpu, the gpu and the memory is not more taxed than is necessary for that purpose. According to Nvidia, is a twice as long battery life as possible as with Battery Boost turned off. The user would select the basis of 30 fps may increase or decrease. It would be more than just frame targeting, but the details make Nvidia not known.

In addition, to support the gpu’s Shadowplay for recording gameplay and there is support for GameStream. With this latest service will try to Nvidia streaming gameplaybeelden easy to make. This put the manufacturer of the h.264 encoder of its gpu’s and self-developed algorithms for efficient streaming over wi-fi and ethernet. In the first instance, works the stream only over ethernet with 50 games and a limited number of routers will initially have the GameStream-Ready certificate. In the future is wi-fi support will be added and the number of games and certified routers completed.

In addition to the GeForce GTX 880M, 870M, 860M, and 850M for gaming laptops, multimediamodellen and other notebooks that have the necessary graphics processing power is needed, the manufacturer also with the 840M and the 830M for thinner laptops. These are both Maxwell based, contain 64bit-interfaces and with up to 2GB ddr3 equipped. All the gpu’s in the 800M series will be on 28nm manufactured by TSMC.
