The Dutch bought in 2013 4.6 million smartphones

The Dutch bought in 2013 a total of 4.6 million smartphones, the figure for market researcher Gfk. Especially the sale of 4g devices gave the market a boost in the last quarter of the year. Devices with large screens are becoming more and more popular.

In 2013, there are thus to 600,000 smartphones sold than in 2012. The last quarter was by far the best selling smartphones in the Netherlands, finds Gfk in its quarterly Retail Reports. Especially the sales of devices with 4g support would contribute to have. In addition, there would be a shift towards devices with larger screens; more than half of the handsets sold now has a screen diagonal larger than 4 inches. In 2012, it was only in the third case.

Also the popularity of smartphones with large screens is increasing, although the market share is still small, according to Gfk. At the end of 2013 was 4 percent of the sold smartphones a model with a screen diagonal of more than 5.5 inches, but less than 7 inches. Lastly, Gfk, a reduction of the number of prepaid models. The percentage decreased from 33 to 19, while sim-only just grew to 37 percent.
