Dutch police gets hidden drugsmarktplaats offline – update

Utopia, a marketplace where illegal commodities could be bought and that only through the anonimiseringsnetwerk Tor was accessible, offline. The Dutch police have the site taken offline, confirms the Public Ministry.

The trading Utopia was only last week introduced, but it is already offline. The website DeepDotWeb first discovered that Utopia is no longer accessible. The forum of the marketplace, which is a private url is still accessible, but is protected for users without an account. It is unclear whether new forumregistraties still has to be approved. On Utopia, users could include to buy drugs.

The Dutch police is behind the turning off of the website, but exactly how that happens is not known. The Public Prosecutor may request only confirm that the police are behind it, but how the police managed to keep the site offline, will later this week be known. The Dutch police have previously called Tor darknets attacked, but this was the sites that were used to create child pornography to distribute it.

In October was the great trading center of The Silk Road coils. On that site could both legitimate products as illegal were to be purchased. Since the discovery of The Silk Road are several alternatives arise; at this time, Silk Road 2.0 online. Tor can be used to make connections with the “existing” internet encryption, but it is also possible to, for example, websites that only through Tor are accessible.
