AMD has a b lwa taversie of Catalyst 14.1 to be released in which for the first time, support is included for its Mantle api. The alternative to Direct3D and OpenGL should provide better performance in 3d games.

Mantle is available for AMD gpus based on the Graphics Core Next architecture. In supported games replaces Mantle the less efficient DirectX or OpenGL. Mantle in AMD for less overhead on the cpu and will so less of a bottleneck for the gpu. Because developers have full access to the capabilities of the gpu it is also easier to make on a recent Radeon video card to the bottom of the camera.

With the beta Catalyst 14.1 has AMD, with the necessary delay, the first driver version released that Mantle for the pc-gamer accessible. Nevertheless, there are still few games that Mantle use, already has EA last week, a Mantle patch for Battlefield 4 released. Also the benchmark Star Swarm is adapted for AMD’s new api.

The speedups that Mantle, according to AMD makes it possible, seem to be in practice taken to be. For example, in benchmarks from Legitreviews with a Sapphire Radeon R7 260X are significantly better performance in Battefield 4 and Star Swarm. As soon as more games for Mantle support will make it clearer what speed on average can be expected.
