Qualcomm has a new series of processors announced that are designed specifically for network equipment. The first two socs with model numbers IPQ8062 and IPQ8064 should be starting available early next year.

The new socs are, in terms of components similar to the Snapdragons for mobile phones and are announced during an annual meeting, reports Venturebeat. Qualcomm has the new IPQ-series with two Krait cores with a clock speed of 1.4 GHz. The processors are baked at 28nm and according to Qualcomm 70 percent better performance per watt compared to the competition, though no exact figures released.

According to Qualcomm, the new IPQ-series specially designed for network devices. The socs come from the stable of Atheros, a company for network applications by Qualcomm is incorporated. The chipmaker claims that the soc’s throughput in networks must improve; the most networks for the processing of too little processing power, according to Qualcomm. With the IPQ-socs would throughput rates up to 5gbit/s are possible.

The first two models in the IPQ-series in the first half of next year become available in products. It is unclear which manufacturers have an interest in the socs.
