Google has cracking ssl connections much harder made the upgrade to certificates with a key length of 2048bits. The zoekbedrijf says the roll-out earlier than planned, having completed. Internet services are recommended to move away from 1024 bit keys.

Google announced the update to 2048bit-rsa-keys in may of this year, and then gave the group the roll-out in 2013 want to complete. That has already happened, says Dan Dulay, beveiligingstechnicus at Google. “The hardware security module that our old 1024 bit certificate contained, has his work well done. His latest accomplishment after all outstanding certificates were revoked, was to be destroyed,” said Dulay.

With the longer key length makes Google the crack of ssl connections by means of brute force a lot harder. Which connections are used, for example, to log in to internet services and online transactions secure. Google used ssl for years with Gmail and default on its search engine from september this year. Although the 1024 bit-ssl-encryption even if relatively safe is seen, is the opinion generally, that in time transitioned. “Especially given the messages about overheidsspionage and other unwanted intrusion,” according to Google.

Googles own Internet Authority G2 certificate authority of the group, from this time, also only 2048bits certificates for the services of the company to issue.
