CBS: number of desktop users is decreasing, laptopbezit greatly increased

In Dutch households is the use of desktop pcs for internet access decreased to 71 percent, while the possession of laptops over the last seven years understand has grown considerably. Also the use of mobile phones for internet access has risen sharply, according to new CBS-statistics.

According to figures from the Central Statistics Office had 95 per cent of all households in the Netherlands in 2012, a computer that allows internet access. This number is the past few years remained fairly stable, but the number of owners of one or more desktop pcs has declined from 78 percent in 2005 to 71 percent in 2012. The laptopgebruik showed in this period a strong increase: in 2005, had approximately a quarter of the Dutch households have laptops, compared to 79 percent in 2013.

The CBS has also looked to the possession of mobile phones. It takes all kinds of phones, including the increasingly popular smartphones. In 2005, used 11 percent have their mobile phone to internet access; in 2012 this figure rose to 72 percent of the households. This is the mobile phone in seven years grown to become one of the most important gateways to the internet.

It is unclear yet to what extent tablets to take; the CBS will examine this category separately. However, it is clear that by now almost every Dutch citizen, whether or not mobile, has access to the internet; only 3 percent would have no access to the web.
