Vodafone may the German kabelprovider Kabel Deutschland takeover, the European Commission has ruled. According to the Commission, there are no dangers for the competition. Vodafone pay 7.7 billion euros for the kabelgigant.

Thanks to the acquisition of Cable Germany Vodafone in one fell swoop a large position on the cable connections. Kabel Deutschland has a total of 7 million connections, and is active in the largest part of Germany, three federal states. In June it was announced that Vodafone, the kabelaar wanted to take over.

According to the European Commission there is no great risk that the acquisition competition will hinder, because the activities of the two companies have little overlap. Vodafone is in Germany especially active as a mobile internet service provider, while Kabel Deutschland only as a virtual provider is active and not have a large market share. On the fixed market, Kabel Deutschland is correct to a greater position than Vodafone, that no dual and triple play offers and therefore not really a competitor of Kabel Deutschland, the Commission finds. Moreover, according to the Commission, still plenty of competitors on the market.
