Mantle api from AMD brings console and pc together

AMD has a new api for its new generation of graphics cards announced. The Mantle api should ensure that game developers easier games can optimise for AMD’s new video cards. Battlefield 4 will be the first game in the new api support.

AMD Mantle is designed in collaboration with Dice, the developer of the Frostbite engine, with the intention to better performance from less powerful gpu’s to get. This is AMD in a similar way as for video game consoles is done, namely by optimizing for certain hardware.

In supported games replaces Mantle the less efficient DirectX or OpenGL, which among other should lead to the cpu to reduce overhead produces and is less of a bottleneck for the gpu. Because developers have full access to the capabilities of the gpu it is also easier to get a video card in the bottom of the can.

The Mantle api would be similar to the apis for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 to be used. This would develop a game for different platforms easier.

AMD will be mid-november during the AMD Devloper Summit more about Mantle. In december, gamers will for the first time, of Mantle. Battlefield 4 will receive an update that makes it possible to Mantle on video cards with a gcn gpu in turn.
