Samsung starts mass production of pci-express ssd for ultrabooks

Samsung has announced to have started mass production of pci-express ssds for use in ultrabooks. The XP941 ssds should be a lot faster than copies with the sata interface and available in variants of 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.

The XP941 has a pci-express interface and is thus not limited by a sata connection. The maximum sequential read speed is, thereby, to 1400MB/s. About write speeds or iops is still nothing published.

The new ssds are designed for ultrabooks and compact dimensions. The XP941 measures only 80 by 22 inches and weighs six ounces. With that size the ssd to the M. 2-package, which can be seen as the successor of msata. The memory chips of the ssd according to a 10nm-class process fried. Samsung specifies the production process are not specified, which means that the featuresize between 10 and 20nm. Samsung has also not yet published in any ultrabooks with the new ssd as first will deliver.
