Opera gives first version on Chromium based browser free

The Norwegian company behind the Opera web browser has a first version of the new browser released, which features a new rendering engine and a new javascript engine. Opera is now based on Chromium.

The preview version of Opera 15, Opera Next’ is called, is since Monday to download for Windows and OS X. The increase of the version number – the previous major version still had version 12 – is not the only important change: that is the underlying render-engine. Opera 15 is based on Chromium, the open-source project that the vast majority of the code from Chrome.

That means that Opera 15 on the Blink engine, a fork of the Webkit project. In addition, the new Opera version of Googles V8 javascript engine on board. The Mozilla benchmark Crack 1.1 seems to indicate that the new version is much faster: it does, but a quarter of the time over the benchmark, which is focused on contemporary and future web technologies. In Peacekeeper scores on the new version significantly better than the previous version, and surprisingly also better than the latest stable version of Google Chrome.

Previously gave Opera to have chosen for Chromium to manpower for the implementation of new features: the development of an own rendering engine would have to cost a lot of money. Opera is in size the fifth browser, after Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and Safari. The four biggest browsers all have their own engine, though, Chrome has only an own engine since the fork of Webkit, Safari and many mobile browsers is used.

Another change in Opera 15 is that the client no longer is included: that is now a separate program. In addition, there are the necessary interface changes, including the appearance of the tabs, there is now a tighter look. Also, there is a new speed dial menu and has Opera the stash has been introduced, where web pages can temporarily be stored, for example, for doing research.
