There is no clear evidence that the use of mobile phones a brain tumour may cause, but it can also not be excluded. This is evident from an analysis of several studies by the Dutch Health council is carried out.

“There is no clear and consistent evidence for an increased risk for tumors in the brain or other parts of the head”, writes the Health council in the investigation that the secretary of state of the ministry of Infrastructure & Environment is offered. “Such a risk, however, can also not be ruled out”, drawing the researchers. Moreover, it is nothing to say about risks in the longer term: there are no figures available for exposure to mobile phones for a period of up to thirteen years.

For one particular type of brain tumors, gliomas called, were some indications for the relation between tumors and the long-term use of mobile phones, but that prompts calls to the Health ‘weak’ and ‘inconsistent’: it could also be simply a coincidence. In addition, despite the introduction of the mobile phone does not increase in the statistics of the number of brain tumors of this type. For other types of tumors, such as tumors in the auditory nerve, the meninges, and in the salivary glands, were even less evidence.

The Health council stresses, however, that it is important to follow-up research to do. Currently working with the researchers to an analysis of animal experiments; the studies that are now under the microscope were taken, were all carried out. In addition, long-term epidemiological research is needed, the Dutch Health council. “The period between exposure to mobile phones and establishing that a tumor has arisen may also be longer than thirteen years,” said the researchers.
