Cuba eases restrictions on internet usage

The Cuban government has access to the internet for citizens in the communist country something more accessible. There will be more access points and the costs for the usage will go down. Still, the internet for most Cubans too expensive.

The government has announced that there will be 118 ‘internet points’ to be created, where citizens, converted to 3.5 euros per hour surf the internet on foreign sites. That, reports the BBC. Until now had to 4,60 euro per hour to be paid in order to make use of the global internet. The visits of domestic sites is cheaper: it costs about 45 cents per hour. The average salary on the island is 15,50 euro per month.

At the same time Cuba, the internet traffic of its citizens to keep an eye on, highlights the government. When users are on the internet ‘unethical’ act, traffic is closed. Few people have internet access in Cuba, although some citizens have internet access at their work or training. A small part of the Cubans, such as doctors and journalists, has home access to the internet. Incidentally, provide hotels for tourists it often does the internet, at much lower prices.

Until the beginning of this year was Cuba depending on slow satellite connections for traffic with the rest of the world, but now has the island over a fiber optic connection with ally Venezuela.
