Next Mac generation may support 802.11 ac

The next generation of Mac desktops and notebooks may support the newest wi-fi standard, 802.11 ac. The latest b lwa taversie of OS X includes references to this new wi-fi standard, which is officially still in development.

The website 9to5Mac discovered references to the 802.11 ac standard in beta version 10.8.4 of Mac OS X. The reference was hidden in the files that the wi-fi functionality of the operating system. In the same files in version 10.8.3 still no reference to the new wi-fi standard.

Earlier this year, were already rumors that Apple is working with Broadcom to 802.11.ac-support for new Macs worked. It is not yet known whether or not new iOS devices also have 802.11 ac support. Technically, it is at least possible; among other things, the HTC One and Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S 4 will support the faster wi-fi technology.

The 802.11 ac standard is officially still in development, but many manufacturers bring all the hardware, based on a draft specification. The standard the 802.11 n specification, go to follow-up. Connections run exclusively via the 5GHz band; 2.4 GHz is in contrast to 802.11 n is not supported anymore.
