The next generation of Mac desktops and notebooks may support the newest wi-fi standard, 802.11 ac. The latest b lwa taversie of OS X includes references to this new wi-fi standard, which is officially still in development.
Earlier this year, were already rumors that Apple is working with Broadcom to 802.11.ac-support for new Macs worked. It is not yet known whether or not new iOS devices also have 802.11 ac support. Technically, it is at least possible; among other things, the HTC One and Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S 4 will support the faster wi-fi technology.
The 802.11 ac standard is officially still in development, but many manufacturers bring all the hardware, based on a draft specification. The standard the 802.11 n specification, go to follow-up. The maximum throughput is with 802.11 ac with 1,73 Gbps is a lot higher than the 600Mbps that 802.11 n can theoretically get. For that extra speed to achieve uses the 802.11 ac spec a bandwidth of 80 mhz per channel, up to a maximum of eight streams and qam256 modulation. Connections run exclusively via the 5GHz band; 2.4 GHz is in contrast to 802.11 n is not supported anymore.
