Crucial begins with delivery M500-ssds

Crucial has started selling out of his during the CES in January, announced a new generation of solid state drives, the M500-series. The ssds are, in various capacities and packing available.

Micron, the manufacturer, under the brand name Crucial are the products to the consumer, the M500-series ssds already in January announced, but the availability of the solid state drives would be only in the course of the first quarter follow. The second quarter is now just getting started, but Crucial has the M500 ssd direct to deliver. The company also produces solid state drives in three form factors; in addition to the classic 2,5″-drives, the M500 drives as small, for ultrabooks referred to msata drives, and if M2-drives available.

Crucial supplies the drives in all three form factors in three capacities of 120GB, 240GB and 480GB. The 2.5″drive in addition with a capacity of 960GB available. The speeds are for all versions and capacities are equal, and amount to 500MB/s, but the write speeds vary with the capacteit. The smallest, 120GB drives, get 130MB/s, the 240GB drives do up to 250MB/s and the largest capacities up to 400MB/s. All drives are equipped with sata-600 interfaces. Crucial uses 20nm-Micron-memory, which is controlled by a Marvell 88SS9187 controller. By flashchips from 128Gbit to use can be Crucial capacities up to 960GB on the pcb is lost, with sixteen nand packages of 64GB.

The price of the 7mm high 2.5-inch models amounts to 105 euro for the 120GB drives, 175 euro for the 240GB drives, and 329 euro for the 480GB version. The biggest drive of almost a terabyte, cost 529 to 539 euros.
