In the first three months of 2013, the market share of Android in five major European markets, the USA and Australia lwa compared to 2012 has increased again. Also, the Windows Phone share shows an increase. Apple’s iOS, BlackBerry OS and Symbian deliver.

The iPhone sales in the countries in which by research firm Kantar was measured, decreased on average by one percent, while the Android sales by 10.7 percentage points increased. The Windows Phone share increased by 2.5 percentage points.

The growth is mainly at the expense of BlackBerry phones and Symbian phones, of which sales of 5.4 and 5.6 percentage points lower than the same period in the previous year. The European sales in the first three months of 2012 and 2013 by Kantar measured in Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom; the Netherlands and Belgium are not included in the study.

The figures of the five European countries also show differences. Spain turns out to be a really “Android-land” to become no less than 93,5% of the in 2013 sales of smartphones in that country is running Android. In the first three months of 2012 was 76,8 percent. All other operating systems in Spain have been pushed aside by Android and fell in popularity. In neighboring Italy, turns out in addition to Android, Windows Phone are also good things to do. The market share of smartphones rose there, from 5.9 to 10.9 percent. Also in the United Kingdom and France increased the share of sales of Windows Phones.

In the seven countries surveyed were selling iPhones only in Japan better than Android phones. The iPhone share is there to 49,2 percent, while Android has a share of 45,8 percent. Windows Phone and Symbian are on the island, with 0.3 and 0.2 percent, hardly a party. Of the countries in which results of 2012 were proved iOS is the only in France to do better than the same period in the previous year. That increase is, however, only 0.7 percentage points. It should in mind that the ratio between Android and iOS also per quarter varies; Apple releases new iPhones usually in the summer or in the autumn, often in that period of time a substantial increase in sales leads. Kantar predicts that the rise of the Android share still continues, thanks to the start of sales of the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4.

The above figures are based on comes from Kantar Worldpanel, which is part of the advertising and pr agency WPP. The figures are determined on the basis of surveys among the approximately one million people in Europe and 240,000 people in the United States.
