Intel has at a trade show referentieontwerp for a media server is shown. This platform consists of both software and hardware for oems and manufacturers of set-top boxes and provides among other things, recognition of movements via the remote control.

The so-called Intel Media Server Reference Design at TV Connect conference in London, shown, is built around the Atom CE5300 processor. This dualcore-soc has support for hyperthreading, according to Intel with a powerful h.264 encoder, a PowerVR SGX545 gpu and virtualization technologies.

Intel bases the referentieontwerp on software from third parties, including the Freespace Motion Engine of the company, Hillcrest Labs. This should be possible to set-top box using gestures via the remote control. The platform also makes use of softwarestacks for decoding digital tv broadcast standards dvb-t2, -t and -c.

The Media Server Reference Design should be available in april for oems and hardware manufacturers. The development systems will, through the firm Videon Central on the market. When the first set-top boxes on the basis of the CE5300-soc’s popping up, it is still not clear.
