Hackers steal passwords of Scribd users

Hackers have broken into the servers of Scribd and the users ‘ data stolen. It involves user names, email addresses and encrypted passwords. A part of that passwords could possibly be outdated.

Scribd does not clarify how many users information were stolen. In total, this service has 100 million users. The service indicates that there are probably no documents and payment information are captured. However, the attackers, were the decision on usernames, email addresses and encrypted passwords.

Although the passwords of users are encrypted and a salt, are the passwords of a small part of the users may be outdated by the attackers. It is not clear how that could happen, but it is likely to be less than 1 percent of the users. The service has affected users an e-mail sent, but users can also check if they are affected.
