Dutch branch HbbTV Forum opts for hbbtv 1.5

HbbTV Forum Nederland, a consortium of broadcasters, suppliers and distributors, have decided to release version 1.5 of the international hbbtv standard in the Netherlands. The hbbtv 1.5 specification in april last year, released.

With the joint of choice for hbbtv 1.5 connect the consortium of interested parties in the Netherlands at of France and Spain, who have previously expressed for the spiritual successor of the Teletext. The choice for the new version of the hbbtv standard, should according to the organization, to ensure that appropriate connected-tvs more quickly in the Netherlands to come onto the market. When tv’s with the standard actually reach the market, is unknown.

Version 1.5 of the hbbtv standard adds a number of new features and improvements. So the new version include support for dynamic adaptive streaming of video. This uses the mpeg-dash standard, and makes it possible to change the bitrate of a video to match the capabilities of the device on which the video is being played.

In addition, the new hbbtv-standard drm technology and it is for hbbtv-applications to access the programming via the dvb signal. With the previous version it was possible to use the remote control of the tv additional information about programs, now-and-later-data as an overlay to display image and operate the ‘delayed viewing’services from broadcasters via hbbtv.

Incidentally, does the umbrella HbbTV Forum already on version 2.0 of the hbbtv specification. That would, however, only about one and a half years be released.
