‘E-mail addresses of Dropbox accounts leaked’

Users on the forum of Dropbox complain about receiving spam on email addresses they only for the cloud-based use. In some cases, users notice that the spam ge-cc’t is to people with whom they have files via Dropbox shared.

One of the users started a topic on the forum of Dropbox with a question about the spam he receives on his e-mail address that is only for the cloud-based used. Dropbox-moderators assumed initially that spammers are hit-&-miss-techniques were used, until there are more users started to complain. One of them has an e-mail address of ten random characters specifically for Dropbox set.

Then assumed the moderators that the recently hacked Zendesk, the email addresses leaked. Dropbox uses Zendesk for support tickets to manage, and users who create a ticket at Zendesk are required to have their e-mail addresses. Zendesk proved according to many users also not the culprit because there are also spam is sent to people who never have made use of the system.

The sent spam seems to be mainly from phishing emails, from that correspondence of, among others, Apple, LinkedIn, and PayPal fakes. There are users who report spam that they receive ge-cc’t is to users with whom they are files shared via the cloud-based, which seems to indicate that the e-maildressen from the system of Dropbox must come. The Dropbox moderators deny the problem, now no more, and have reported that Dropbox, this problem is at the bottom will find.

Dropbox has in the past often had to contend with security issues. In June 2011, for example, a few hours possible on the cloud-based login without a valid password. In July 2012, complained users about receiving spam on email addresses they only for Dropbox users. After an investigation by an external team of security researchers, reported Dropbox that there was no evidence for a hack.
