The Tor Project, mostly known for his special Firefox installation that allows users to via Tor can surf the web, has a first beta version of TorBirdy extension released. The extension allows users to e-mail about the Tor protocol to send and receive, but should also work with other Mozilla software, such as Sunbird. To the extension, the extension also have the Tor software installed locally.

Users that complete anonymity will want to mail, it is recommended that the e-mail account using Tor, and then only via Tor to access it. In addition, it recommends the Tor project in order to receive e-mail using the pop3 protocol to use: that is, according to the developers a much simpler protocol than imap, which is less likely that there are unexpected bugs occur. Incidentally, draws for the project that Thunderbird is still a pair of small ‘bugs’ which the local time is always sent with an e-mail, giving the location of a user roughly could be derived. That is, the project is undesirable; it is working on patches for the bugs.

Tor is software that allows users to more or less anonymously surf the internet. The software is under more by activists and dissidents used in countries where there is internet censorship or where internet use is monitored. Tor, originally by the Us army was developed, is written in full for The Onion Router. This refers to ‘onion’ to the way the system works: internet traffic through several randomly selected servers, where only the first server is moved the ip address of the user. Each server ‘pelt’ as it were, a part of the Tor-packages, hence the “onion” analogy.
