Broadcom has a chip announced that works with the mobile network technology lte-advanced. This makes download speeds of up to 150Mbps possible, so claims the manufacturer. Next year, the chips are commercially available and therefore can be used for mobile phones.

According to the company, the maximum download speed to 150Mbps and is the maximum to achieve upload speed 50Mbps. Incidentally, the chip, with the name BCM21892 also support for ‘regular’ lte connections, and is also older 2g and 3g technology supported. Spraakverbindingen on the basis of volte are also possible. In addition, claims Broadcom that the BCM21892, the smallest lte-advanced chip on the market.

Lte-advanced is the successor of lte and have connections of up to 1Gbps. The chips from Broadcom offer significantly lower speeds, which also with the conventional lte technology can be achieved. However, there are no commercially available chips that have 1 gbps over a mobile network, all are tests.

The BCM21892 chip is not yet in mass production but is already sampled for interested companies. It is unclear who exactly would be interested, but it’s probably going to smartphonefabrikanten and other telecommunications companies.
