Rumor: Facebook coming with competitor to Google Latitude

Facebook is, according to Bloomberg busy with an application that allows users the location of their friends can see. In terms of functionality the app is similar to the Latitude app from Google and the Find My Friends app of Apple.

According to Bloomberg, based on two anonymous sources, the application in mid-march to be announced. The application must include the location of users, continuous tracking, even if the app is not in the foreground. Therefore, at any time, the location of other users who have the app installed, can be obtained.

The application has to Facebook to help users ads to serve based on their leefritme and location. Facebook has struggled to monetize its mobile services, while the number of users Facebook through their smartphone or tablet visits, continues to soar. Bloomberg draws also, however, that privacyvoorvechters probably not too happy with the application.

In terms of functionality, the application is similar to the Latitude app from Google and the Find My Friends app of Apple. Neither of the two applications is, however, popular; the question is whether or not Facebook that know better to do. The team that the application works, is according to the international monetary Fund from employees of two start-ups who have experience with location-based services, including the in 2011 acquired ‘locatiedeeldienst’ Gowalla.
