Reading e-books rises in US at the expense of paper

According to an American study, the decline in the number of people that paper books read last year by about five percentage points. The book readers left their paper book for an electronic variant.

The research, which was published by the web site Pew Internet, was conducted among over two thousand respondents. Of the 75 percent book readers did 67 percent of that from the paper: a year ago the percentage was 72 percent of the respondents. The readers that the paper in the bookcase were, chose for e-readers and e-books: the percentage of readers of electronic books, increased by seven percentage points from 16 to 23 percent.

The increase in reading e-books was accompanied by an increase in the possession of e-readers and other devices that e-books can display, such as tablets. The number of respondents with such a device increased from 18 percent to 33 percent. Noteworthy is the large percentage of tablets are among those devices: of the joint 33 percent owners of electronic devices has 25 percent a tablet, and 19 percent an e-reader. A year earlier, was that every 10 percent. More and more people would e-books by libraries to borrow.

The figures for the Netherlands reflect the American figures partly: the percentage of tabletbezitters would, however, with about 34 percent considerably greater, while only 13 percent an e-reader.
