Google discontinues consumer support ActiveSync Exchange

Google stopped the support of Microsoft ActiveSync Exchange, which for users of non-Android devices are more difficult to view contacts, calendars and push e-mail of Googles services to sync. Google recommends carddav, caldav and imap.

The end of the support will be available by January 30, 2013 to enter, and is only valid for consumers, stressed Google in the announcement. Existing Google Sync connections will continue however to function: consumers will only no new synchronizations more. The end of the support is part of the ‘Winter Cleaning’: each season cuts Google in its portfolio of services to of little-used or unprofitable services to get rid of. So pull Google the plug Google Sync for Nokia S60, SyncML, Smart Rescheduler and the Punchd app.

Google advises users of non-Android devices to caldav for calendars, carddav for contacts, and imap for e-mail use, and iPhone users can also use the Gmail app for push e-mail. For Windows Phone 8 users, it is more difficult: that OS supports the caldav and carddav protocols not yet, also there is no Gmail app, and from the statements of Google implies that there are no plans to create it. They can however Gmail sync via imap, but then they miss a push-mail. For users of the Google Apps business service, nothing changes; this remains Google new Sync users accept.
