Microsoft wants Kinect to use the number of persons to count via Xbox, watching a movie, in order to determine whether there are persons without permission to look. That can be seen in a patent application from 2011. Concrete plans with the technology are not announced.

Microsoft shows in 2011 filed an application with the Uspto that a method defines to the number of viewers to count watching a movie. The application is titled “content distribution regulation by viewing user” and is in very general terms, established. Microsoft describes a method to ‘content’ to show in a presentation. Microsoft wants to be able to determine whether the persons who see the presentation before a license. If there are people watching who are not licensed, then Microsoft wants a number of licensing options to submit.

The terms Xbox, movie and Kinect in the application not mentioned, but the most obvious application of the patent is to regulate the number of persons to a movie through the Xbox 360, the game console of Microsoft, are watching. Through the Kinect’s built-in camera can the number of people counted to be in front of the tv and even be determined or that conform to a known profile. Then the consolebouwer determine whether the number of viewers corresponding to the license that the owner of the Xbox 360 has decreased. If there are more viewers than allowed, it will give the owner the option is presented to a broader license to purchase.

The consolebouwer describes how the number of viewers to follow closely. So if halfway through the movie someone joins him, it will be registered. Microsoft also wants to profiles of specific viewers capture, so that it can determine how often someone has a certain film has already viewed. Or concern concrete plans with the method described, is not known. Microsoft asked earlier patent on a method of using Kinect to the age of a viewer to determine. Or the current version of Kinect is able to the viewers accurately enough to recognize them, is but very the demand. There are, however, already some time rumors that the consolebouwer is working on a successor.
