Microsoft releases first major update to Windows 8 and Server 2012

Microsoft has released the general availabilityupdate for Windows 8 has been released, with fixes like that before only with a service pack were released. New pcs with Windows 8 and retailversies of the OS will the update be delivered.

Microsoft has released the first major update for Windows 8 and Server 2012, Steven Sinofsky announced on the Building Windows 8 blog. The ‘General Availability Cumulative Update” for Microsoft’s latest operating systems will get number bibs KB2756872, extends battery life and improves performance in the new Windows 8 apps. Further, it is the audio and video playback have been improved and better compatibility with applications and drivers.

Sinosfky explains that in previous versions of Windows, the period between the release to manufacturing and general availability-status was used together with hardware on the new operating system running smoothly on new hardware. Any improvements that Microsoft for a certain manufacturer in Windows checked in, were reserved for this partner, until these improvements have been bundled into the first service pack.

With the general availability update, Microsoft wants to make these improvements in the foundation of Windows faster release.
