Dutch isps and SIDN to go together botnets mapping

KPN, Solcon, Tele2, UPC, Xs4all, Zeelandnet and Ziggo go along with registrar SIDN information about botnetbesmettingen and other abuse-issues central to collect and share. With the so-called Abuse IX should include, botnets are more effective can be combated.

According to the initiators constitutes Abuse IX an office where botnetbesmettingen collected and sorted. This information is then forwarded to the participating isps. According to Abuse IX, that at the beginning of next year should be running, internet service providers, as faster have actual abuse reports. Doing so would be cost savings because isps no longer own this information need to collect and process.

Abuse IX, KPN, Solcon, Tele2, UPC, Xs4all, Zeelandnet and Ziggo, as participating providers. Also registrar, SIDN, and the Platform internet security to do with it, in which the SIDN, together with the ministry of Economy, Agriculture and Innovation, the start-up costs for their account will take. These amounts total a little of 400,000 euro.

According to Niels Huijbregts, employed by Xs4all and spokesperson for Abuse IX, is the hotline and is especially useful for large abuse problems, such as persistent botnets, or large-scale virus outbreaks. The office, however, has not the right to internet subscribers directly; this task remains with the respective provider. Further hopes Huijbregts that other isps have to Abuse IX will connect, including the mobile providers, Vodafone and T-Mobile. Also, he sees a role for bodies such as the Dutch Association of Banks.
