At this moment only the letter, telephone, and telegraafgeheim are constitutional protected, if the government is also apply to digital communication. That has the outgoing government announced.

The cabinet has approved a proposal of prime minister-president Mark Rutte to digital communication in the constitution to protect. Now this is only used for communication via the post, via the telephone and through the telegraph, but in the future also have such things as e-mail, private messages on social media, and the storage of files in cloud services under the provision.

It is, as yet, to have a plan, where as from October 1, people can respond through the website Internetconsultatie.nl. The constitution cannot simply be changed; therefore it must in the first instance, a majority in the Second and First, with the plan to approve, followed by elections, after which again a majority must agree. In the latter case, moreover, that a two-thirds majority. The last constitutional amendment was in 2008.

So it can take a while before the secrecy of correspondence has to actually apply to digital communications; indeed, there are just elections and if the next cabinet is the four-year sentence, can the change only at the earliest in 2016 is to be introduced.

It effectively provides constitutional protection of communication, in which everyone who is not the addressee, is prohibited to communication. As digital communication also falls under, is still unsure what impact that can have; the question is whether a company such as Google is still the mail of users would be allowed to scan.

During the last election wanted to be different parties in digital communication under the privacy of correspondence would come to fall. Were under GroenLinks and D66, but also the PvdA, which is currently in discussion about the formation of a cabinet with the VVD.
