Research: mobile operators go rates to increase

Dutch providers will see their rates again will increase. That is expected, research firm Telecompaper on the basis of the results of the three major Dutch mobile phone providers. The revenue goes down.

The decrease in turnover is mainly due to the rules that are imposed from the national government and the European Union. Brussels wants, for example, the roaming tariffs down, writes Telecompaper. By the rules, decreased the revenues. Also the revenue from sms messages decreases because of the decrease in the use of the message service of the providers. Customers grab prefer to free services for sending messages, such as WhatsApp and Facebook Chat.

Providers less money with phone calls, will have consequences for the prices, estimates the research firm. “Telecompaper expects that operators have their rates re-adjust to the market conditions, to the expected decline of revenues from voice to catch.” What the new rates look like, is unclear.

In recent years, providers on average one to two times per year the rates changed. In the summer of last year, the providers, for example, an adjustment of the prices by this spring, it was again so far. The adjusting of the prices indicates that the market is changing rapidly. Providers have in subscriptions to the data bundle centrally placed, while calling and especially texting more often be an option, or unrestricted. A few years ago that was vice versa: a subscription had the calling bundle as a basis, while surfing the internet unlimited if at an extra cost, usually a dollar per month.
