Red Hat brings trial version of OpenStack distribution

Red Hat has a preview version released its OpenStack distribution. The trial version of Red Hat OpenStack is based on Enterprise Linux 6. A fully supported version of the cloud platform should next year come on the market.

OpenStack is an open source iaas platform, and as an alternative for proprietary cloudplatformen, such as Amazon Web Services. Among other Red Hat has code to the project contributed, and is one of the key members of the OpenStack Foundation. The number of companies offering commercial products based on OpenStack market is growing: as announced by RackSpace earlier this month cloudservers and databases on the basis of OpenStack.

Red Hat also sees opportunities in OpenStack, and has a preview version of Red Hat OpenStack released. Serves as a base Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. With the trial version, will Red Hat get input from users before it fades away to a commercial and fully supported release of his cloudpakket. This should be in place in 2013.

Although Red Hat expects OpenStack to an important product will grow, the company sets tentative steps on the market for cloud computing. In addition to Red Hat and RackSpace are also Canonical, and Suse, and active supporters of the OpenStack project. Direct competitors are Microsoft’s Azure, VMware, and CloudStack, to Apache-based platform that, among other things by Citrix will be supported.
