Astronaut Neil Armstrong died

The American astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon, is Saturday at the age of 82 died. Armstrong had been battling for some time with heart problems. Complications after a bypass surgery, were Armstrong to be fatal.

Armstrong did with the Apollo 11 mission on July 20, 1969 on the moon landing, along with fellow astronaut Edwin Aldrin. With his first footstep on the moon’s surface, he spoke the famous phrase: ‘That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind’. Together with Aldrin, he spent three hours on the moon, where they among other things, a moon walk made.

Before Armstrong with the Apollo 11 to the moon successfully to finish, Armstrong was commander and test pilot of the Gemini 8 flight. With this mission knew the NASA for the first time two spacecraft to link.

After the successful moon pulled Armstrong back and empire the media. He left NASA and became a professor of aerospace engineering. In 1986, the cameras however back at him when he was part of a commission that the accident of the space shuttle Challenger would investigate.

U.s. president Barack Obama in response to the death of Neil Armstrong the astronaut, one of the greatest American heroes ever: “When he and his team members in 1969 aboard the Apollo 11 went, they carried the dreams of a whole nation. When Neil first set foot on the surface of the Moon, he delivered a performance that never will be forgotten,” said Obama.
