The Electronic Frontier Foundation has a petition started to try the American patentensysteem to reform. Among other things, the validity of patents would be shorter. Sounds more noises about reform.

According to the organization, the existing system of software patents on seven points change. This will help the EFF, and the validity of patents is reduced to five years. Also would companies that other companies sue for patent infringement, all legal expenses required to pay if infringement cannot be proven. In addition, people and organizations that softwarepatentaanvragen submit, is an example of software that the conscious technology used and information on patent and licenses are publicly available.

The EFF also wants the less easy it is to be accused of patent infringement. Companies that in their own way a develop technology that corresponds to a patented technology, would not be indicted. Also, would any damage be limited, so companies don’t have millions of dollars required to pay if the particular patent is but a small part of the technology in a particular product.

Finally, the EFF that the Us Congress looks at the usefulness of software patents. There should be a research on the economic effects of granting such patents in the United States. This gives the EFF the suggestion that it might be better to use such patents altogether. The organisation was also in talks to want to with other organisations, inventors, lawyers and academics to debate the current patentensysteem in the US.

The petition started as a result of the recent developments around patents and technology. In recent years, many of the suits brought between technology companies that are mutually accuse of patent infringement. Moreover, Microsoft, Apple and Samsung have a leading role. Also are patent trolls arise; these companies buy patents with the sole objective to others to complain and licentiegelden or damages to requirements.

The American patentenbureau USPTO spoke earlier about a reform of the patentensysteem. The organization began last year with a consultation, while the Us Congress may have a new patentwet policies.
