Developers working on software for the Raspberry Pi have a test-image released, based on Debian 7.0, codenamed Wheezy. The current Debian version for the minicomputer is running on Debian Squeeze.

Raspberry Pi brings the test-image to users of the minicomputer is able to set bugs in Wheezy to report. The developers report that it is now Spindle want to use it for new images to construct, so there is less often a problem should occur.

The test-image of Debian Wheezy contains more firmware packages and various configuration tools for the Linux operating system for the minicomputer to be fine-tuned, while also a car mount-mechanism for usb devices in the operating system is included. Also, the software contains the media player, omxplayer, and the web browser Midori.

Raspberry Pi wants to be the test-image in the short term also available through its own repository; currently Debian Wheezy only through a privéserver to update, all the 447MB heavy image via bittorrent downloaded. The developers warn, however, that this test image should not have a upgrade feature to a future official release will be provided.
