Facebook hint that the current round of voting about the privacy policy or even the last. Users of the site may to 9 June vote, but the outcome is only binding in a ‘rise’ of 30 percent, which is unrealistic seems.

Facebook has been working for some time on a new ‘Statement of rights and responsibilities’, which include an amended privacy policy is incorporated. The site offers users the opportunity to substantively respond to the changes and this has been to some of the changes led. Among other things the Timeline feature and the ability to advertise on the basis of hobbies in the new statement described.

The social network on Friday began with a round of voting, where the users through a Site Governance Vote app can indicate whether they are the old policies to prefer or to choose new. The voting lasts until June 8 and is only binding if 30 percent of users participate. A total of 900 million users would be 270 million of them, their vote should be cast, which is unrealistic seems. Probably the result also of an advisory nature.

What is also likely is that it’s the last time that Facebook in this way, users are allows to participate. In the words of Elliot Schrage, vice-president communications, public policy and marketing at Facebook, let the site know the procedure to take a closer look to see if the votes still reflect the original purpose for a greater consensus.

“While our mechanism for participation maybe is going to change, that is not true in regards to our support for more transparency, accountability and the act,” says Schrage. Facebook gave in 2009 for the first time the opportunity to vote on the policy. The privacy-spokesperson of the company, however, mentioned earlier that the goal was to notes of high quality to get, not so much to as many as possible comments.
