Toshiba will stop production of lcd tvs in Japan

Toshiba has announced the production of Regza lcd tvs in their own country discontinued due to disappointing demand. The measure is part of a reorganization that Toshiba within three years, its operating profit would double.

Toshiba stops production of Regza lcd tvs in their own country because of a decreasing domestic demand, a result of the termination of a grant for the purchase of more fuel-efficient tv’s, and increased competition from the Korean manufacturers Samsung and LG. Also plays a strong yen in the decision.

The cessation of production in its factory in Fukaya, in Saitama district, the only facility in Japan where Toshiba still lcd tv’s produced. Furthermore, the company has lcd tv factories in Poland, Egypt, Indonesia and China.

The closing of the factory in Fukaya is part of a company-wide reorganization that within three years the operating profit to double to almost 4.5 billion euros. The profit amounted in the previous year, that in march 2012, slightly more than two billion euros.

Although the lcd tv division of Toshiba’s loss-making, the other areas are significantly better. So, the company is the second player, behind Samsung, in the field of nand flash and the sale thereof in the elevator. Also in the field of energy – and so-called smart grid technology is Toshiba a good.
