Europe sets maximum rate for mobile internet abroad

Rates for the use of mobile internet abroad from this summer to a maximum. That the European Parliament has decided. In addition, users can, from 2014, each country is a provider choose for roaming.

The price caps for roaming within Europe were already known, but now the European Parliament majority accepted a proposal from the European Commission, the ‘government’ of Europe. As a result, the providers to adhere to these caps, because they have the force of law. Earlier, it was the proposal with the rates already went outside.

It is the first time that there is a maximum price on mobile internet within the European Union. There were maximum prices for voice minutes and text messages. Also travelers have already a ceiling; the provider warns if the phone bill over the 60 euro threatens to come out. The user himself must take action by giving consent to roam. That should prevent users to run up huge bills for roaming.

From 2014 users can for a trip, for example a holiday, a roamingpakket with a local provider. Thus, the user remains reachable on the own number, but can be used the lower, local rates. Because providers abroad Dutch customers may lure with low rates, for example during a holiday, the prices of roaming go down. Now have customers still using their own provider to pay for roaming.
