Apple has the term ‘4g’ iPads in the Netherlands removed. The iPad works on not only Dutch 4g network. Earlier this week it was the designation 4g elsewhere already been removed after criticism that the tablet is not with lte networks outside the US works.

Apple sells now the iPads with the English term ‘wifi + cellular’ in the Netherlands. The name change also applies to Belgium. Previous iPads were sold as ‘wi-fi + 3g’, a term which is still accurate in the Benelux. Apple came under fire because of the designation, because the iPad only works on lte networks in the United States and Canada. The netherlands now has five lte networks with very limited range.

That the new iPad does not work on Dutch lte networks, because the antenna is tuned to frequencies that are used in the United States and Canada. The Dutch networks work on the in the US not used the 2.6 GHz band.

Earlier this week claimed Apple the name change in several other European countries and in Australia. Also in the United States, where the term ‘4g’, no confusion would sow, is called the iPad with support for mobile networks, wi-fi + cellular’.

According to the definition of the International Telecommunications Union should Apple the iPads ‘4g’ as: the definition of 4g is a mobile network with a theoretical download speed of 14.4 Mbps or higher. Dutch 3g networks are now also under. The definition was adapted under the pressure of mostly American carriers, which had begun with the sales of phones with support for fast 3g-support as ‘4g’models. Outside the United States use providers that naming conventions are not and are only wimax and lte as 4g indicated.
